Book Review

Fresh Start
God's Invitation to a Great Life
By Doug Fields

If you had the chance to change your life for the better, would you? All it takes is a decision.

Trapped by harmful habits, behaviors, and attitudes, we struggle to become the person God has created and called us to be. Saddleback Church teaching pastor Doug Fields says it’s never too late to get a fresh start. With personal stories and youthful writing, Doug challenges readers to recognize that they may say they want God in their lives, but they really don’t want to change. They are stuck. He says, "It’s not about trying harder, it’s about plugging into God’s transforming power and submitting your entire life to Christ. Age doesn’t matter; fresh starts are for everyone." Topics include:

* Dealing with pride
* Defining success
* Living with guilt
* Struggling with conflicts
* Finding true friendships
* Overcoming discouragement
* Facing rejection
* Attacking anger

This is a great book from the Student Pastor from Saddleback, Doug Fields.
Being a youth pastor also I really enjoyed this book.
Doug is a great communicator to this generation.
Now he is reaching a much bigger audience.
This book places him with many other great authors.
To be honest I like his style better than his pastor.
It was very easy to apply to my own life the answers from this book.
The study guide and journal are great additions.
Start over and dive in and experience God in a real way.

Let Go
Live Free of the Burdens All Women Know
By Sheila Walsh

Burdened. The word alone makes shoulders sink. It slows down our lives. It clouds our vision. It is the result of so many memories, grudges, fears, uncertainty, and stress. It is heavy.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matt 11:28)

Overworked? Overcommitted? Overtired? Underappreciated?

Let go and live free.

Sound impossible? Sheila Walsh thought so – until God proved himself again and again through his Word, his people, and her life.

In Let Go, the bestselling author and speaker walks readers through the journey to freedom in Christ. Along the way, she tackles some of the toughest struggles that weigh women down, answering them with overwhelming truth, promise, and hope.

You can lay down your burdens. You can rest. You can find peace. You can live free.

Start here. Let Go. And see what God can do.

My wife really enjoyed reading this book. It was very encouraging and uplifting. Sheila does a great job of using personal illustrations. The style of writing is very easy to follow. My children love her kids books and her cds that went a long with them. We even read them to their calsses in school when they were young.

Sheila uses a lot of scripture to help the reader understand the need of letting go and letting God help them. It focuses the power and sufficiency of God. You will grow in your relationship with God. All you have to do is LET GO.

Rick and Bubba's Guide to the Almost Nearly Perfect Marriage

The new book by the national syndicated talk show hosts Rick and Bubba is a marriage book? I could not wait to get this book to see how they would talk about marriage. It is so funny and a very easy read. I kept reading parts to my wife so she could laugh with my. They discuss what really goes on in most Christ-centered marriages. We related to so much of what the said. From beginning to end their insights are spot on.

I was most impressed with the spiritual content. They do not think divorce is ever an option. In today's time for two well known radio hosts to hold such an importance on a marriage built on the Bible and Jesus is amazing. The cool part is not that they are too preachy. They make their points with great conviction and sincerity.

The cd included with the book is a great addition. It has bits from their show and stories from the book. It is hilarious. Buy this book!

About The Book:

The only thing funnier than marriage is Rick and Bubba talkin' about it!

Rick and Bubba are at it again, and this time it is all about marriage. Addressing such topics as apologizing (The Ten Worst Ways to Say I’m Sorry), communication (Grunting Is Not a Language), date nights (Worst Date Nights in History), finances (I Thought You Paid the Gas Bill), and playing sports together (I Did Too Let You Win), the two "sexiest fat men alive" will have couples everywhere tied in knots. With stories, top ten lists, and even a bonus addendum of their oft mentioned, "The Book of Blame," this humorous look at marriage is long overdue. This book will revolutionize your way of looking at married life. And it might just remind you all over again why you fell in love in the first place.
