Dug Down Deep

What are you going to build your life on?

Dug Down Deep is systematic theology like you’ve never seen it before. Readable. Relevant. Powerful. As best-selling author Joshua Harris shares his own journey from apathetic church-kid to student with a burning passion to truly know God, you’ll be challenged to dig deep into the truths of God’s word.

With humor, conviction and compelling insight Dug Down Deep covers the basics of faith—God, scripture, Jesus, the cross, salvation, sanctification, the Holy Spirit and the church. Don’t settle for superficial faith, dig deep.

Dug Down Deep is a must read book. I could not put it down. I am now using the book as a must read book in my ministry. I will yearly teach from the book. Joshua Harris has always been one of my favorite authors. This book really helps explain doctrine and truth. The visuals on the battle of the flesh was awesome. Everyone needs to read this book! The writing style of the book was very easy to follow. For students the book really helps sort out issues of their faith.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

It's time to wake up!

AWAKENING by Stovall Weems

Stop hitting the spiritual snooze button.

Would you describe your walk with God as fresh and exciting? Would you describe your spiritual life as vibrant and passionate? If not, would you like these attributes to be the norm in your everyday relationship with God?

Are you ready to experience an awakening?

Awakening helps you stir up your slumbering soul. You’ll discover how to break out of your season of dryness or get off to a great start either in the New Year or the next season in life. Take your faith-walk from a “going through the motions” or “have to” mindset to the stimulating, fresh “want to” experience of enjoying God’s presence—24/7.

Weems encourages you to surrender fully, to discover the right kind of fuel for the journey, and to learn a new way to pray and fast. This lifestyle is not based on rules or religion, but on a deep, satisfying, motivating relationship with God.

Included in Awakening is a 21-Day Plan that will guide you through the principles that ensure a lasting, fresh relationship with God—even in a world where everything quickly becomes stale.

“It’s time to wake up and put an end to spiritual sluggishness! I promise this year will be the best of your life if it is your best year spiritually.” – Stovall Weems

In a world filled with Twitter, Facebook, and so much noise and clutter, we can easily get distracted and “gunked up” spiritually — bogging us down when it comes to our relationship with God. But according to Stovall Weems, there’s a powerful, "new school" way to hit the reset button and find the thriving life God promises.

Awakening includes a 21-Day Plan that will help activate the principles that ensure a lasting, vital relationship with God — even in a world where everything quickly becomes stale. Regardless of where you are in your journey with God, Awakening will take you to the next level in your relationship with God.

My Review
I am currently on a fast so this book was a breathe of fresh air. I was very encouraged and challenged by the book. The church really needs to return to using the discipline of fasting. We have so much going on that our spiritual life suffers. Weems gives practical advice to stop and really focus on your spiritual life.

The only thing I didn't catch was he calls this a new approach. Fasting, praying, and bible study are not a new approach. We just don't practice it enough.

Still this is a great book. It is a very easy book to read. I finished the book in one sitting.
What I really liked was the study guide and devotion section in the back of the book. His website also has a lot of articles and helps.

Let's Get Radical!

Take the next step. From radical followers of Christ to radical communities of faith.

In Radical, David Platt’s plea for Christians to take back their faith from the American Dream resonated with readers everywhere and quickly became a New York Times bestseller. Now in Radical Together, the author broadens his call, challenging us to unite around a gospel-centered vision.

How, he asks, might such a vision reshape our priorities as the body of Christ? How might well-intentioned Christians actually prevent God’s people from accomplishing God’s purpose? And, how can we best unleash the people of God in the church to carry out the purpose of God in the world?

Writing to everyone who desires to make an impact for God’s glory—whether you are an involved member, a leader, or a pastor—Dr. Platt shares six foundational ideas that fuel radical obedience among Christians in the church. With compelling Bible teaching and inspiring stories from around the world, he will help you apply the revolutionary claims and commands of Christ in fresh, practical ways to your community of faith.

MY REVIEW
I loved Radical even though it was one of the most challenging books I have read. Radical Together takes it up notch and discusses what being radical looks like in the church. Platt poses the question, "How can we in the church best unleash the people of God in the Spirit of God with the Word of God for the glory of God in the world?" He then tackles this question with 6 very amazing statements and observations. There are great illustrations to back each of his points.

This book is a great challenging resource for every church!

The Cause Within You

Whether we realize it or not, each of us was created for a great cause—and we will never be truly fulfilled until we find and pursue it. Matthew Barnett, son of a well-known megachurch pastor, discovered his great cause when he relinquished his dream of building a big, successful church like his father’s and began listening for God’s dream for his life. Sensing that God was calling him to serve the poor and powerless of Los Angeles, Matthew founded the Dream Center, a beacon of hope for homeless families, drug addicts, abused women and children, victims of human trafficking, teen runaways, gang members, and many others whose lives were filled with brokenness.

If you are hungry for a life full of passion instead of apathy; if you are ready to use your specific gifts and abilities to make a mark on the world; if you need to be reminded that God loves you and has a plan for your life—The Cause Within You is the book that can change everything. Through his own story and the stories of others whose lives have been transformed, Matthew Barnett will lead you to the cause of your lifetime.

My Review

I am usually not a fan of these kind of books. But I enjoyed this book. The illustrations are great. He explains what God has gave them to do. We never says do what we do at you will have success. He does point people to God and His Word. The author wants people to be transformed by the power of the cross. Then take the transformational power and spread the gospel. I was encouraged by his transparency and realization of his purpose to glorify God. I was challenged to go...

The Chasm

The Chasm: A Journey to the Edge of Life
By Randy Alcorn

A Journey He Couldn’t Miss… and a Step He Couldn’t Take

He found himself a traveler in the strangest of lands. Where invisible secrets come starkly into sight. Where the fairest of companions leads the way into unsuspected danger and darkness. Where hidden battles burst into the open. Where so much is grasped…and so much more seems unattainable.
Driven by a yearning he doesn’t understand, compelled toward a destination he can’t quite see, the traveler navigates the inhospitable landscape with determination and a flicker of something like hope—despite the obstacles that seem to unerringly block his path.
Best-selling novelist Randy Alcorn weaves a supernatural interplay of wills and motives, lusts and longings, love and sacrifice. It’s a potent mix that leaves every reader wondering: Do I really understand this world I live in? Do I really understand myself? Is there more to all this than I’ve ever dared hope?

INCLUDES 12 ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATIONS

My Review:

I love all the books by Randy Alcorn. I also subscribe to monthly newsletter. This book is a great allegory. I love the way Alcorn weaves God's Word into the life of Nick Seagrave. It was very encouraging and a easy, fun read. Being only 128 pages it can be read in one sitting. The way salvation is seen is really amazing. This is a true allegory not like The Shack.
